In addition to education in the classroom, all students are encouraged to explore and embrace new experiences. Newlands College provides an extensive co-curricular programme of sport, performing arts and other activities.
The Performing Arts are well represented in the fields of music and drama and offer substantial programmes. In music, choirs, vocal groups, rock bands and instrumental groups perform regularly. Individual tuition on a variety of musical instruments is available for a modest fee.
A large drama studio provides an excellent teaching, rehearsal and performance space for a busy drama schedule. A wide range of activities including regular visits to professional theatres in Wellington are offered to students. In recent years Newlands College has also established an outstanding record of success at the Sheilah Winn Festival of Shakespeare and the One Act Play Festival.
Filmmaking is a popular activity. Newlands College students enjoy access to a range of up-to-date digital filmmaking equipment as well as a custom built media studies facility to make short films for the NOSCARS (our annual short film festival), the 48 HOURS filmmaking competition and various filmmaking productions.
Our annual Production, draws upon skills and talents from all the Arts disciplines. We have a very proud tradition of staging these to sell-out audiences.
