In the Art Department at Newlands College, we encourage all our learners to develop visual literacy and aesthetic awareness to solve problems. We teach conceptual thinking within a range of practices across drawing, design, painting, printmaking, photography and moving image. Our Junior students follow a carefully structured programme aimed at giving them the necessary basic skills which can be developed further in the senior programmes. Our Senior students have the freedom to choose a topic of their choice within each discipline to develop meaningful work in an area of personal interest. We also provide learning opportunities by offering a weekly co-curricular Art Club where students can explore their creativity within a personal project.
