Newlands College actively plans for, encourages and supports Maori Students and their whanau in their pathway to succeed highly in all areas of Newlands College.
Newlands College seeks to promote high quality Maori Language education in the form of Te Reo Maori, and Kapa Haka groups.
Student leadership is promoted through the Komiti Maori which organises events such as Matariki, Maori Language week, professional development for staff, and junior end of year trips. The Maori student representative on the student executive has responsibility for running this Komiti.
The Whanau Advisory, entitled He Roopu Manaakitanga mo te Whānau, is a group of parents, staff and students who meet regularly throughout the year to discuss student data and implement strategies relating to improved outcomes for Maori students.
